Two Books Written By Freida McFadden

This summer, one of my relatives recommended a book to me called The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. I recently found out that it was a series and began to read the second book of the series called The Housemaid’s Secret.

The Housemaid:

The first book is about a young girl named Millie Calloway who is desperate to start fresh after an incident from her past revealed later in the book). She gratefully accepts a position as a live-in housemaid for Nina and her husband Andrew Winchester, in their mansion. But as Millie continues working there, she starts noticing a few things. Nina Winchester has unpredictable behavior and super strict rules while Andrew is kind and loving to his wife. Many of their neighbors have also proved to Millie that Nina has mental problems and how Andrew should have left her. In addition to that, the gardener at the house seems to be communicating something with Millie but she can't figure out what. She only keeps the job for the nice pay and because she won’t find another job without anybody asking too many questions about her past. As the story progresses, Millie discovers many of the family's secrets and must try to solve everything before it's too late.

The Housemaid’s Secret:

After the incidents of the previous book, Millie has to find another job as a maid. Millie gets hired by Douglas Garrick, a really rich man who gives Millie a nice pay. On her first day, Douglas tells her to never open the guest bedroom. He explains to her how Wendy, her wife, is really sick and would rather be left undisturbed. After getting the job, Millie constantly feels like she is being watched and always sees the same black car wherever she goes. The first few days at work, Millie ignores the guest bedroom but later, she hears crying from the room. And Douglass, who is really respectful of Millie, always gets frustrated when Millie goes near the room.

Millie senses that something is going on with this family. So one day, when Douglass is at work, Millie convinces Wendy to open the door. The sight she sees makes Millie shocked and terrified and she knows she must do something.

I thought that the first book was very interesting and finished it in one sitting (during a road trip)! The book had an extremely shocking plot twist which was totally unexpected. When I first started reading The Housemaid’s Secret, I didn’t think it could have as good of an ending as the first book but I thought the ending was actually pretty good. I personally think that the first book was better, but the second book was also interesting and definitely not disappointing. I think I’ll probably read the third book too and see how it compares to the first two.

So if you are looking for a thriller mystery with suspense and crazy plot twists, this would be a good book to try!
