This series has 23 volumes; this review is on the first 6
'Twas a fateful night in the year of 2019, and a second grader by the name of Connor was having a sleepover with his friend in the third grade by the name of Justin. Connor suggest the idea that they should watch something on the TV in Justin's living room, and Justin agrees. Connor suggests they should watch a new anime that released recently called Demon Slayer and turns it on.
Ever since that day Justin has been hooked on the anime, watching every new arc within the week it releases, and with the first movie in the "Infinity Castle Arc" being recently released, he decided that it may just be time to read the manga.
Book Blurb:
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows the story of young Tanjiro Kamado on his journey to turn his demon sister Nezuko Kamado back into a human. Now let give some context: Tanjiro and his family (Kie, Nezuko, Shigeru, Hanako, Rokuta) are charcoal sellers who live on a mountain. One day, Tanjiro heads down the mountain and into town on a cloudy and snowy day to sell some charcoal, but later in the evening on his way back up the mountain, his neighbor Saburo tells him that going back home during the night is dangerous due to there being demons.
Saburo tells Tanjiro all about demons - they can't stand the sunlight, so they come out at night, and they feast upon human flesh, so it is the Demon Slayer's job to annihilate them. So, Tanjiro stays the night and climbs up the mountain the next morning. Tanjiro arrives back home, only to find everyone in his family was killed by a demon. Amidst the blood and corpses, he finds that Nezuko's body is still warm and attempts to take her to the hospital. only for her to transform into a demon. However, Nezuko refuses to eats humans, and later helps Tanjiro on his journey as a demon slayer as he searches for the cure to turn her back into a human.
What I Liked:
One of my favorite things about this series is how easy it is to get attached to characters - which is actually tragic considering most of them get killed off anyway - and it makes the story so much interesting. The story overall is also very intriguing as it conveys many different emotions such as joy, grief, nostalgia, and more. My favorite parts were the battles, because they were always so action packed, and always kept me on the edge of my seat - despite already knowing who would win due to plot armor. The character's backstories - particularly the villain's - were always so in depth, so I also really enjoyed reading about those in the mangas.
What I Disliked:
Truthfully, I try not to post a blog on books I don't like, and the same applies here. There were so many good things about these books, but the only thing that continuously bugged me were the pictures. I was not reading the colored version oof the manga, so it was very hard to tell what was going on occasionally, but I was able to read thanks to the fact that I have already watched the anime.
